Family Friendly SCIP (School Continuous Improvement Plan)
2026-2027
Every year, our school sets a few big goals and makes a plan for reaching them. This page explains this year's goals, what teachers and staff will do, and how we'll know it's working.
Goal 1: Reading
What we're aiming for
• Kindergarten and 1st grade: More students will show typical or strong growth in early reading. Right now, 33.3% of students in these grades are growing at that pace. By Spring 2027, we want that to be at least 37.3%.
• 2nd through 5th grade: More students will show typical or strong growth in reading. Right now, 53% are growing at that pace. By Spring 2027, we want that to be at least 57%.
We measure this with FastBridge, a short reading assessment students take during the year.
What we'll do
• Teachers will look at reading assessment results and everyday classwork to see what each child is doing well and where they need more help.
• Using that information, teachers will teach in small groups matched to what students need right now. Groups change as students grow.
• In grades K-2, teachers will use a phonics program called UFLI and check students' spelling progress each week to decide who works together.
• Classroom teachers, English language teachers, and special education teachers will meet monthly to look at student progress together and adjust their plans.
• Our Student Success Teams will look at how students are doing, work through barriers to learning, and make sure any extra support is coordinated.
How we'll know it's working
• Teachers will check progress at the end of each of the first three quarters and change small groups when needed.
• Meeting notes, progress data, and support plans will be tracked and reviewed regularly.
Goal 2: Math
What we're aiming for
By June 2027, 55% of students in grades K-5 will be working "On Level" or "Above Level" in math. We measure this with the HMH Growth Measure, which students take in fall, winter, and spring.
What we'll do
• Teachers will give two shared math checks during the year, one by January 2027 and one by May 2027, so they can see how students are learning and adjust their teaching.
• Teachers in each grade will work together to agree on what independent work time should look like in a Montessori classroom.
How we'll know it's working
• Both math checks will be completed on schedule.
• School leaders will visit classrooms to observe independent work time and talk with teachers about what they see.
Goal 3: A Caring School Community
What we're aiming for
When a student has a serious enough problem that it's sent to the office (called an office discipline referral, or ODR), we want to help them repair the harm and learn from it. This is called restorative practice. Right now, 13% of these situations are resolved with restorative practices. By June 2027, we want that to be 75%.
What we'll do
• School leaders will expand restorative practices at our school.
• Students will fill out a reflection sheet with thoughtful questions about what happened, who was affected, and how to make things right, before they return to class. We plan to start using this by October 2026.
• All staff will think together about how to welcome students back to their classroom warmly. We plan to gather staff input by November 2026.
• School leaders will share discipline information (office referrals and suspensions) with staff every quarter, and we'll regularly review and update our School Wide Discipline Plan.
How we'll know it's working
• We'll track the share of office referrals resolved with restorative practices.
• Staff will complete a survey about welcoming students back.
• Discipline information will be shared with staff each quarter.
